Taking in horses and ponies
We will take in horses and ponies in need of sanctuary for reasons of neglect, mistreatment, certain illnesses or if the owner is unable to keep the animal.
There will be certain exceptions to this, and we do not take retirement horses due to funding and space reasons.
Any horse or pony that comes into our care must be signed over to the Charity for legal reasons.
Any horse or pony coming in for illness reasons will incur a charge due to the law now on disposal* and it's associated costs. This is generally in the region of £200.
Sadly several years of experiencince have taught us that not everyone is as honest as they could be when signing over ponies, and this has forced us to change our policy on taking ponies in. We now require a minimum donation of £75 for us taking on any ponies. This is our standard charge and is aside from the charge listed above.
It costs us hundreds of pounds each year to treat animals we were told were healthy, and these unplanned and unexpected costs have to be taken from other areas of the charity, with the potential to leave us short of funds for essential costs. Without these vital funds we would not be able to take any more ponies into our care.
