Our Ponies - just some of the current horses and ponies we have with us.

Each of these ponies has a story to tell, good or bad, but we dont like to put the details on here. Instead a brief description of each animal is given.

Details of the ponies that are available for loan can be found on the Loans page.

Shetland Polly came in with Molly and is a very placid little mare. Unfortunately it has been found that she has quite severe gum disease and suspected Cushings disease and will be on lifelong medication, so she will not be rehomed. .

(not available for loan)

This lovely little miniature shetland mare, Molly (yes, another Molly!!) came to us with her companion due to a change in her owners circumstances. She is very sweet, but despite looks, is a bundle of power - an 18hh horse in the body of a mini shet!! Molly has had severe laminitis in the past and will stay with us until this is under control.

Paddy Four Shoes, a Caspian X, came to us after a change in his owners circumstances. He is a very sweet and pretty pony, but he doesnt like small kids. He is destined to become a driving pony and once his education is complete, will be looking for the perfect home.

(out on loan)

Thyme is a Welsh B pony who came to us very reluctanly after her owner could no longer keep her. She is a very sweet mare who has the potential to be a great childs riding pony. Has been laminitic in the past.
Dragon came in with Thyme. He is a British Riding Pony and a lovely, sweet lad. He is a little nervy at times but loves nothing more than a cuddle and a fuss. It has been discovered that Dragon has malabsorption problems, and has been badly laminitic leading to rotated pedal bones, so he will stay in our centre for the forseeable future.

Cleo came in with Star and will be a little harder to rehome - not because of her temperament, which is lovely, but because she has had laminitis and COPD in the past and is blind in one eye! A very special loan home will be sought for this very pretty mare.

(out on loan)

Star came to us due to a change is his owners circumstances. He is a kind but strong pony and has already found himself a great loan home.

(out on loan)

Manny is a shetland yearling who came to us when his owners circumstances changed. He is destined for great things, and he will be looking for the perfect showing home to fulfil his potential.

(out on loan)

Dewey came to us after a change in his owners circumstances meant he couldnt keep him. He is severely laminitic but this is now under control.

(out on loan)

Molly is a lovely shetland pony who is incredibly nervous of humans after suffering previous abuse. She was signed over by her owner who had put much time into trying to rehabilitate her, but a change of circumstances made this impossible. Molly is improving day by day and has now found the perfect new home.

(out on loan)

Giggsy is a Shetland pony who suffers from laminitis. He came to us due to a change in his owners circumstances. Giggsy suffered an injury in Dec 2007 which has resulted in severe arthritis in his shoulder. He is now on daily medication and will stay with us to live out the rest of his life.

Please read Giggsy diary for an update on his condition. (not available for loan)

Jake is a Welsh D who was sadly signed over to us after he lost his companion to a malicious attack. He is a wonderful pony who is excelling in his loan home.

(out on loan)

Ted the Shetland came to us from a farm that could no longer keep him. He has attitude in spades and has even managed to keep the New Forests in check! Ted is broken to drive and will ideally be rehomed to somewhere that he will be regularly worked to keep his mind occupied!

(out on loan)

Frankie is an adorable Dartmoor X who was reluctantly signed over to us when his owner was injured in a car accident. He is only young, and will spend some time chilling out before being brought into light work.

(out on loan)

Roo is a Miniature Shetland with attitude! He was very sadly signed over to us when his behaviour became too much for his owner to cope with. He is a very sweet pony but needs work to control his temper!!

(out on loan)

Nelly is a Dartmoor X who was sadly signed over to us by her owner when she could no longer keep her. She is an extremely sweet pony but cannot be ridden as she bucks! She will be rehomed as a companion.

(out on loan)

Telenor is a 14.2hh New Forest Cross, who was reluctantly signed over due to a change is his owners circumstances.

(out on loan)

Little Orphan Annie is a gorgeous coloured Shetland.. She was left in her field on her own and brought in by caring people from a nearby yard. She is sweet but can be a little nervous. She is currently being backed and brought on in our centre.

(out on loan)

Blackberry is a Shetland Pony who was reluctantly signed over to us due to laminitis and sweet itch. He is a real character and has paired up with one of the youngsters....real partners in crime!! He is being backed and brought on and will hopefully be a lovely childs pony in the future. (out on loan)

This is Nooky Bear (yes, we know!) He is mini shetland and very cheeky. He is very friendly, but quite spirited!

(out on loan)

This is Glitter. He is a New Forest youngster. He came to us with behavioural problems, although he has been very good! He is a youngster who was sold as older and wiser than he turned out to be. He has been put into the small herd of New Forest ponies we have on site to chill out for a bit and has now started to come back into light work.

(out on loan)

This is Biscuit. He is a mini shetland who was dumped on a farm with a badly injured leg and covered in bite marks.. It is thought from his behaviour that he has also been badly treated by humans. He is very nervous around people and will stay with us for rehabilitation.

Read some of our progress here: BISCUIT This site is Sandford Therapies, and who we accredit a lot of Biscuits improvement to. (out on loan)

Turner is the mini shetland stallion who came in with Molly and Barney. He is quite a placid fellow and again very friendly. He has now been gelded and has been rehomed

(out on loan)

This is 11hh Molly. She was brought in to us with a young foal at foot after being rescued from less than ideal conditions.

(out on loan)

Barney is Mollys' foal. He is a friendly, well mannered young man who spends a lot of his time either laying down or asleep! He is a very pretty colour, and will be available for loan to the right home now he is weaned.

(out on loan)

Fred is a gorgeous Shetland pony, a real little bundle of fur. He came to us after a serious problem with laminitis made it impossible for his owner to keep him. He is backed to ride as a childs lead rein pony.

Update: Fred is now laminitis free, and although will need monitoring, can live in the field with no problems.

(out on loan)

11hh Gizmo came to us in May 2005 after being rescued from a bad situation by a concerned horse owner. He is very sweet and friendly, and took to the mini shetlands straight away.

(out on loan)

Toffee was born in May 2005. He is the second, and last, foal out of Popcorn. He is very cheeky, and thinks he owns the place! He has a leg problem which needs constant monitoring.

(on loan)

Rusty is a 15.1hh horse of unknown breeding. He has been with us since he was about 18months old, and was so ill that it was thought putting him to sleep was the only option. I'm glad to say that after a lot of care, attention, work and vets bills, he is good as new and has found a great loan home where he rides out and is learning new things all the time. (out on loan)

14.1hh Bobby was next, he was found abandoned in a field, and subsequently found to have a major back and shoulder problem. He was in the care of our excellent Equine Therapist but has now been signed off, with an exercise programme to help loosen the shoulder.

(out on loan)

Mini Shetlands 'Popcorn and Polo' came next - they were found by the RSPCA wandering in a nearby village, Polo was a full stallion (now gelded) who was very neglected with twisted feet and turned up toes, Popcorn (a filly) had been attacked by a dog and had bite marks all the way up her neck. The RSPCA investigated but were unable to trace the owners and prosecute them. I am pleased to say that after lots of love and care both returned to full health and by way of repayment 10 months later in Arpil 2004 our numbers increased when Popcorn gave birth to a lovely filly which we named 'Spirit'.

Littl'uns Equine Rescue came about several years ago when a relative found a miniature Shetland stallion being kept in a stable all day every day and was determined to do something about it. She was able to obtain him and sent him to us to "do something with" - "So Low" is now gelded and has been broken to ride and drive.
