About Us
Our family has been taking in 'waifs and strays' in the horse world for the last 7 years and due to the increase of abandoned and rescued animals in our area in the last few years, it was decided to go into it officially and we became a Trust in April 2004. We applied for charitable registration at that point, which we were granted in September 2005.
The charity currently receives no financial help and is funded mostly by the Trustees. This severely limits the number of horses we can help, although we dont like to turn any animal in need away.
Each new arrival sees a Farrier, Equine Dentist and Equine Therapist to highlight any problems present, receives treatment for worms and a Vet is called if necessary, this costs approximately £100 per animal and that is before feed and hay costs go on. Each horse then needs regular worming and foot trimming. On top of all this there is field maintenance (fertilizers etc), fencing costs, field rent etc. and the list goes on and on.
Our main intake is ponies, in particular Miniature Shetland Ponies. There are greater numbers of these ponies being abandoned, mistreated and neglected as people tend to buy them purely as pets, without realising the dedication, knowledge and money needed to keep these specialist ponies.
Please note: We do not take retirement horses. Please check out our links page for alternative centres who will cater for these horses.
